Tsavo East
This was our 1st day and we ended up getting lost. Initailly three of these kids were showing us how to get back to the main road. Along the way these other kids just came alonf.
Initially I thought these were just some really cool rocks. Later I found out that Kaloeni sits on limestone and sandstone.
Learning how to weave using the ralphea (may be misspelled) plant. This plant is used to make baskets, ropes, and bags. This fiber is really strong and things made from it last for up to 10 years.
This was our welcoming ceremony in Kaloeni. This was a big celebration that included dancing a lot of speeches and some food. We got up and danced and met the committee that helped bring us to Kaloeni.
This is one of the government built watering dams. When we arrived in June this was the level of water. Unfortunately there was a drought in Kenya and the level didn’t increase dramatically,
Pictures in front of the Esther’s Hotel( Restaurant) where we used to go everyday for tea and chapati. Also for the 2 weeks we used to eat a lunch there of beans and chapati.
This was the shower it was located right behind the house. It was pretty cool at night although you couldn’t see yourself the stars were bright and you could make out the constellations
